What you need to know

The tag is not the normal Fisheries tag but contains a certain phone number.  A photo should be taken, the tag cut off where indicated and the fish released back into the river. Then you can make the call! The tag must be presented, along with your registration card/tag to claim your prize.

How Can I fish

Anglers can fish from the bank, boat or kayak.

What can I catch

In your registration pack you have clear guidelines of what type of fish can be registered, what the legal size of fish are etc. We ask that even undersize fish are photographed before being released ( except for Carp which, no matter what size should not be placed back in the river). Undersize fish will not be accepted in the competition but the photographs will be collected by Fisheries to check on fish stock and river health.

Fishing Licence

Each Angler must hold a current NSW Fishing Licence if required. Check this out to see if you need to purchase a fishing licence, this information is from the Department of Primary Industry Site. Licences may be purchased online from this site or on the day from HQ

What do I need

You must have access to a smart phone and submit you fish, by means of a photo to the number that will be provided to you at the commencement of the competition.

You must have an approved brag mat for measuring your fish.

Only “environets” can be used to help land fish. These are non-knotted and limit damage to fish.

The perpetual trophy for the longest native fish is “HARRY THE COD” which is kept on display in Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre as a promotional tool. Harry is an iconic Murray Cod which is common in the Edward River.

Harry was 101cm when discovered and was actually found in the Waring Garden Lagoon when it was drained to eradicate European Carp and Redfin English Perch (both introduced pest species). Unfortunately, he died and now is a fitting tribute to his species as the inaugural trophy for the Deniliquin RSL Fishing Classic.
